The Effect of Foot Reflexology on the Anxiety and Stress of the Military Hospital Pre-Operation Patients

Abstract
|

|
Purpose : This study was to identify the effects of foot reflexology on anxiety and stress in pre-operating patients.
Methods : A quasi-experimental study using a non-equivalent control group nonsynchronized design and was conducted from June 10, to August 20, 2007. The military personnel who received arthroscopy surgery on 00 military hospital participated in this study. The experimental group received the reflexology on both feet for 10 minutes and the control group received massage on both feet for 5 minutes. The data were analyzed by ¥ö2 test, t-test, ANCOVA, paired t-test using the SPSS 12.0 V. program.
Results : There was no significant difference in anxiety, systolic blood pressure, pulse, stress between the control and the experimental group. There were significant differences in of blood pressure, pulse and stress in the experimental. This displays the foot reflexology is a good choice to reduction of stress response pre-operation patient. This study showed that blood pressure of the experimental are significantly lower than the one of control group(p<.05).
Conclusion: The findings indicate that this study may contribute to developing a nursing intervention for preoperative patients.
